You are not required to have or bring a PA system for your performance That said, we know that many of you do bring your own sound systems and setups to make the performance ideal. Please reach out if you're looking for compact and portable gear ideas for Sound Affects performances.
Equipment notes are listed in our show offers and calendar invites. Some facilities have pianos, PA’s and other gear available for use. Some do not. Please also note audience/room sizes in our calendar to better prepare what amount of gear you may need.
Questions? Ask us OR call the facility. Either of us will be happy to answer
-
Note any special instructions on directions or entrances in your Google Calendar invite. Your invite will include an arial map of the facility.
Many facilities have multiple entrances. It's best to park near one and leave your gear in the car to check that you're in the right place before unloading!
Staff should always be available to show you where you are going, but if they are not, feel free to walk through and find the person or place you're looking for.Item description

If you do not have experience interacting with and connecting with individuals living with dementia, Sound Affects performances can sometimes present uniquely confusing and sometimes challenging moments for an incoming artist. While dementia is particularly relevant in Memory Care Facilities, it is also not unusual to encounter dementia while in other kinds of care facilities, including Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living facilities. Signsof dementia can include repetition, fear, anger, outbursts, different understandings of personal boundaries, and lots of pacing or wandering.
Please read more here or reach out to us with questions and to learn more about redirection and helpful tips when performing for individuals experiencing dementia. Music is famously beneficial for this population and Sound Affects appreciates the impact you make for these residents and families every day!

If you have a day of performance question, feel free to call the point person at your facility, number listed on your reminder emails and calendar invites
Every facility has a Sound Affects point person, often the facility Activity Director. When these individuals are not present to greet you, find an Activity Department Member or a Front Desk receptionist for instructions.
Facility staff SHOULD be present during your performance to assist with residents' needs or your own. If this is not the case, don't be afraid to ask for staff help even if it's in the middle of performing

Artist Cancellation: Things happen. We will do our best to find you a sub for your performance and will book you as usual following a cancellation.
Facility Cancellation: Things happen. We will do our best to reschedule you at the same or another facility to make up for the loss of work or income.
IF a facility cancellation occurs at the time of a performance to the extent that you have already prepared for and driven to your performance, you may recieve compensation regardless of the performance being cancelled

Prep Time
It can take a moment to find the correct entrance and performance areas in our partner facility buildings. We recommend arriving at least twenty minutes before your performance time, unless you are familiar with the facility and/or require no setup. More prep time can help depending on your gear, but that’s up to you! Anything earlier than 40 minutes before performance time and there may be other activities happening in the space where you’ll be playing.Pay
Remember that Sound Affects payments come from Sound Affects following your performance, not onsite from the facility itself. Sound Affects paydates are every Monday and Thursday. This means that if your performance is on a Monday through Wednesday, your payment will be issued on that Thursday. If your performance is on a Thursday through Sunday, your payment will be issued on the following Monday. If you believe that you have not recieved a payment or recieved incorrect payment, PLEASE don’t hesitate to let us know! We are human and mistakes can occur. We want to get you paid ASAP and appreciate you speaking up if and when you need to.
